Tentsile vs. Traditional Hammocks & Tents

Tentsile invented the Tree Tent and we're thrilled that other companies have created their own versions. Any product that gets you enjoying the outdoors is fine by us!

To make sure you get the most enjoyment, here's a few reasons why Tentsile Tree Tents can offer a better experience than many of the alternatives.

Comfortable Sleeping Position

Traditional hammocks can be set up almost anywhere and offer levels of versatility that is be hard to match with a conventional tent. However, most hammock tents only give you the option (and space) you to lie on your back as the hammock floor envelops you and forces you into a mummy position.

Thanks to our tensioned floor and 3 anchor points, Tentsile Tree Tents and Hammocks give you a taut surface (similar to a trampoline but with less bounce) on which you can lay in any position - on your front, side or back.

The anchor points also ensure that there's very little movement on the hammocks and tents especially compared to the swinging and accompanying (for some people) motion-sickness that comes with normal hammocks.

Rymlig

Multiple People

Thanks to the sag present when using a hammock, they are very difficult to share a hammock, making it a pretty solitary experience, so if you want to snuggle up with your partner - you're out of luck!

With Tentsile, aside from the UNA 1-Person Tree Tent, which is designed for solo adventures, all our tents and hammocks can accommodate 2 or more adults, allowing you and your loved ones to enjoy the Great Outdoors floating in comfort above the forest floor.

SLITSTARK

Our tents are built to hold up to 400kg (depending on the tent), making them perfect for regular use in tough conditions. They are reinforced with seatbelt webbing and built to absorb movement.

Many alternatives are lighter than our hammock tents making them a little easier for lightweight adventures, but the downside is that they're a little less durable.

Väderbeständig

Most camping hammocks come with an insect mesh and rainfly but these often have gaps where wind and errant rain can enter.

Each Tentsile tent comes with a a built-in no-see-um insect mesh and a waterproof which can wrap around the tent to fully enclose it and protect from all weather.

Tentsile vs. ENO: Product Comparison

Eagle Nest Outfitters (ENO) are one of the best-known hammock brands on the market today.

Thanks to their high-quality products, eye-catching colour schemes and great social media following, ENO (like Tentsile) have developed a cult following of loyal customers.

ENO SubLink Hammock System

Tentsile UNA 1-Person Hammock Tent vs. ENO SubLink Hammock System

The battle of the lightweights! The ENO hammock systems comes with everything included to get you out into the trees, and the SubLink is ENOs take on the super-light and backpackable tent.

While this isn’t the most stripped back version of an ENO, you could take on a trail, like the UNA, and it strikes a good balance of weight saving and comfort.

  • For a hammock set up the SubLink system isn’t much lighter than the UNA, weighing in at 1.45kg, compared to the UNA’s 1.99kg.
  • Again, pack size is smaller but not massively (22.9 x 11.4 x 25.4cm vs the UNAs 35 x 15 x 16 cm)
  • The UNA packs down into a single bag, whereas the SubLink system has each individual part packed into 5 individual bags. While this can be a benefit to ease of packing around the other items in your bag, which you could still do with the UNA if you wanted to, it can also be a little annoying when you don’t have everything you need in one bag.
  • ENO doesn't have a built-in insect mesh. On the plus side, you can leave it at home when you don’t need it, reducing the pack weight and if you rip it you can easily replace it. However, because it's not built-in the insect mesh isn’t going to be as fully sealed. Also, it can be a bit of an effort to set this up separately.
  • The UNA uses a single pole to lift the roof creating good headspace and tension, but, while unlikely, it does have the potential to break. The ENO SubLink mesh has to be hung on a line, will never provide the proper tension needed, however, it is extremal unlikely to break.

Aside from the above, there are also a whole range of differences between the Tentsile range and the ENO range, explored below.

Tentsile Tree Tents vs. ENO Hammocks

Tentsile Advantages:

  • Tentsile Tree Tents are one of a kind and offer the comfort and versatility of a hammock with the protections and security of a tent.
  • The taut base allows you to sleep comfortably in any position; back, stomach or side - unlike traditional hammocks (including ENO).
  • Each tent and hammock comes with tensioned underfloor system which creates separate sleeping bays and allows multiple people to sleep in comfort without rolling into each other. ENO offer 2-person hammocks, but they are simply larger, with no underfloor support system.
  • All Tree Tents and Hammocks pack into a single bag, no matter their size.
  • Our Safari range is heavy-duty and can be used for up 3 months at a time, perfect for long-term camping and semi-permanent setups.
  • Internal and external storage pockets for personal items and even rucksacks (on our 2+ person tents)
  • Tentsile tents and hammocks can be stacked to create a multi-level basecamp.
  • Most of our rainflies are 5,000HH (2,500HH for the UNA) and the Safari rainflies are 8,000HH compared to Hennessy's 2,000HH rainfly.
  • Each tent has a specially designed rainfly which completely wraps around the tent.
  • Tentsile tents and hammocks are unique have a very more unique product and whenever you setup camp, you’ll always have at least 1 (usually very vocal) admirer.

ENO Advantages

  • While Tentsile offers the lightweight T-Mini Hammock and the UNA and Flite Tree Tents, ENO hammocks are much lighter and take up less space in your pack.
  • They are simple and fast to pitch with no knots needed, even on their lightest models.
  • ENO hammocks are lower cost than Tentsile’s range
  • A very modular product, so you can tweak your personal set up to be unique to you and fit your needs perfectly
  • Wide range of easily compatible third-party straps and accessories
  • More room for error with the set-up

Sammanfattning:

ENO are the gold-standard when it comes to traditional hammocks, no-one else comes close. Their range is high-quality, reliable and if you’re looking for a traditional hammock, they’re a great choice.

As traditional hammocks, they are lightweight and so perfect for backpacking, hiking or ultra-lightweight adventures. However, they are only really suitable for a solo camper as even in the 2-person models, you’ll both roll into the middle of the hammock.

While more expensive, Tentsile is a wholly unique product and a much better option for multi-person camping as a long-term shelter. Thanks to the anti-roll straps and taut floor, Tentsile tents and hammocks are better for couples, side/front sleepers and those wanting to camp with their pets.

Tentsile vs. Hennessey Hammock: Product Comparison

Hennessy Hammocks are an established outdoor company specialising in providing traditional hammocks and hammock tents for over 20 years.

    Tentsile Advantages:

    • Tentsile Tree Tents are one of a kind and offer the comfort and versatility of a hammock with the protections and security of a tent.
    • The taut base allows you to sleep comfortably in any position; back, stomach or side - unlike traditional hammocks (including Hennessy).
    • Each tent and hammock comes with tensioned underfloor system which creates separate sleeping bays and allows multiple people to sleep in comfort without rolling into each other.

    Hennessy Hammock Advantages:

    • Lightweight and with a smaller pack size, so a good choice for hiking
    • The asymmetrical floor shape offers much greater sturdiness than a traditional hammock.
    • Two different style of entrances available, including a unique and patented underfloor entrance for simple and direct entry.
    • Simple & familiar to set up, great for beginners, and easy to find locations
    • Rainfly could be set up specifically to deal with snow, and you have the option to purchase a range of different tarps for different endeavours.
    • A wide range of third-party straps and accessories are available.
    • Much lower cost than a Tentsile, but also you also get "less hammock" for your money.

    Sammanfattning:

Hennessy Hammocks are a great choice for ultralight expeditions, thru hiking, and hardcore lightweight advocates. They're also easy to set up in the garden without trees and so incredibly versatile. Cheaper alternatives are available, but Hennessy have established themselves as providers of high-quality and reliable products over the past 20 years.

Kammok: Product Comparison

Kammok specialise in producing traditional hammocks, but also stock a small range of 1-person hammock tents. These tents are formed from the combination of a standard hammock, with a built-in insect mesh and rainfly.

While we love and stand by our products, they're not always going to be the right choice for you. We want campers to enjoy the outdoors and if you can do that better in a non-Tentsile tent, then that's fine by us.

We've written what we believe is a fair and balanced comparison of some of Kammok's most popular models with our own so you can find the hammock tent that is best for you:

    Kammok Sunda (2.0) Hammock Tent

    Tentsile Flite Advantages:

    • The Flite's tensioned setup creates a taut base to sleep on allowing you to sleep in any position, making for a comfortable night's sleep.
    • The built-in underfloor strap system creates 2 separate separate bays so even when one camper is heavier than the other, you won't rolling into each other or the middle of the hammock tent.
    • There are 6 storage pockets, making it easier to keep your personal items safe and dry.
    • You can set the tent up on the floor, but this does need a Markomvandlingssats.
    • The Flite can be "stacked" with a T-Mini 2-Person Double Hammock to a Ground Conversion Kit and Double-Bubble Insect Mesh to create a 4-person, multi level camping setup.
    • The 70D 5,000HH rainfly provides more waterproofing than the 20D rainfly included in the Sunda (2.0). It is also removable meaning that in warm weather you can enjoy the breeze and sleep looking up at the stars.
    • The Flite is currently $399 vs. $420 for the Sunda (2.0).

    Kammok Sunda 2.0 Advantages:

    • The Sunda is easier for 1-person to set up and can be use in the air and on the ground without needing additional products.
    • It has more headroom than the Flite, so may be better for super tall campers.
    • The Sunda has doors built into the rainfly so it's easier to climb in when the rainfly is attached.
    • At half the weight of the Flite, it is more suitable for super lightweight hiking and adventuring.

    Sammanfattning:

The Flite is a heavier and takes a little longer to set up, but is for 2-people to sleep in absolute comfort. It can be set up in ground mode, but this does require a Ground Conversion Kit.

The Sunda (2.0) is a more lightweight option for a solo camper and can be pitched on the ground or between trees so is very versatile.

So if you're looking for a hammock tent to sleep 2 people and want a comfortable and weather-proof night's sleep, the Flite is likely the best option, but if you're running solo and need the extra versatility, then the Sunda (2.0) ticks all the boxes.

    Kammok Mantis UL Hammock Tent

    Tentsile UNA Advantages:

    • The UNA's tensioned setup creates a taut base to sleep on allowing you to sleep in any position, making for a comfortable night's sleep.
    • The 3-points of tension mentioned above also means there will be far less movement and little of the swinging traditionally associated with hammocks.
    • You can set the tent up on the floor, but this does need a Markomvandlingssats.
    • The UNA comes with built-in storage pockets. The Mantis UL can be upgraded with a storage net, but it cost $259, the same price as the tent was originally.
    • It offers a larger sleeping area so you can sleep with your bag in the tent. without it slipping down onto you in the night.
    • The 20D rainfly offers a little more protection than the 15D rainfly included with the Mantis UL.

    Kammok Mantis UL Advantages:

    • The Mantis UL weights 1lb 15.5 oz (0.89kg) with the rainfly and 1lb 2.7 oz (0.53kg) without making it a super-lightweight option for carrying with you.
    • Packs away smaller, and into a really nice custom bag with multiple compartments and multiple attachment options.
    • Setting up is fast and simpler for beginners.
    • The tarp could be adapted to create a ground shelter.
    • Its adaptable rainfly can be set up to deal with specific rain conditions or the snow
    • It has a max capacity of 136kg, compared to the 120kg for the UNA.
    • The full hammock tent setup is the same price as the UNA ($299) however for this

    Sammanfattning:

The Mantis UL is perfect if you need a super lightweight setup and is quick to set up. The rainfly is less weatherproof than the UNA, but is a little more adaptable for different conditions - however, if you don't know what you're doing, you could set it up wrong.

Where the UNA comes into it's own is increased size, durability and a much more secure setup with far less movement and swinging. The UNA is also second-to-none when it comes to comfort and a good night's sleep as the tensioned base sags very little compared to the Mantis UL. Naturally, this come at the cost of a longer setup time.
